Kara Taylor’s YA mystery novel takes place at prep schools in Manhattan and Massachusetts. Anne, the main protagonist, is a likeable, bold, brash teenager. After accidentally setting a fire at her Upper East Side prep school in Manhattan, her parents transfer her to Wheatley, a prestigious prep school in Massachusetts. Shortly after arriving, her room-mate is murdered. The school is indifferent to solving the murder. In light of Anne’s tenacious personality, it’s not surprising that she initiates an extensive search to solve the mystery of her murdered room-mate. During her investigation, she discovers that her roommate is not as naive as she initially appeared and that Wheatley is shrouded with many secrets. Anne discovers some essential information about the murder towards the end, letting the reader know that Anne is not done solving the mysteries surrounding the Wheatley School. Prep School Confidential is a fast paced, light murder mystery filled with plot twists with intriguing characters.
