Review: Enchanted August

ENCHANTED AUGUST BY BRENDA BOWEN

RATING: 2 STARS

A failed attempt by the author to write a modern day version of Enchanted April. Four Park Slope women, needing a break from their husbands, take a vacation staying in a forty room cottage on an island off Maine. on one of Maine’s islands, staying in a forty room cottage.  Although the setting is described well, the characters were un-relatable, un-likeable and two-dimensional. Meanwhile, the owner is an older gay gentleman, stays in the attic during the rental time, hoping the perfect buyer will fall in love with his house – along with him, and purchase his house. This character didn’t add or forward the story in any way.

Skip it.
